From setting up a dedicated study corner to using visual time management tools, these strategies will help your child balance homework and relaxation.

  • Always have healthy snacks available during study or tutoring sessions.
  • Create a study space outside of the bedroom (kitchen, family room, or dining area).
  • Ensure the study area is quiet and free from distractions.
  • Use a Time Timer or countdown device to visually manage study breaks and assignments.
  • Coach Candace’s tips are designed to help maximize study time while leaving room for fun!
Coach Candace recommends:

1.) Always has a stash of healthy snacks available for her students when they come for tutoring or coaching!

2.) Another great suggestion is to have a study corner set up for them that isn't in their bedroom. The kitchen, family room or dining area are great places where they can sit and do their homework! Have a basket handy with any supplies they will need to finish their work. Make sure the area is quiet and relatively distraction-free. Be sure to give your child plenty of positive reinforcement and praise. If you notice they are doing a great job focusing on their work, don't hesitate to say, "great job staying focused!" or "you're doing an awesome job with your work". Little words of encouragement go a long way!

3.) The last thing is to have a Time Timer or other countdown device handy so they can see how much time they have left until they can take a break or they are done with their assignments. Visually seeing the time is great way for them to work on time management.
